End Of August Update

Wow the summer goes fast! I suppose it was a bit ambitious to plan for a monthly newsletter but a farmer can dream right?

It was so lovely to wake up to our first rain in over a month this morning. It is such a relief to have a break from irrigating. We are very blessed to have access to water from our well and a fairly functional irrigation system that lets us keep on top of watering crops, but it does add many hours to the day and we hate to see the plants stress from drought.

On the other hand, dryness means less weeds, less disease and easier ground prep so we are feeling good about our fall crops. All are planted and nearly weeded! Our early summer veggies like cucumbers and zucchini are starting to fade out while peppers and tomatoes are in the peak of their harvest. We recommend trying each of our varieties of peppers - try em grilled, roasted, in a salad! They are all distinct and so delicious - we are way into peppers if you can’t tell.

Greens, radishes and roots will return in a few weeks - we’ve been working hard to plant and weed for the fall while keeping up with that summer bounty.

A few other updates: our kitchen is under renovations, hence the smaller amount of add-on items available this season but Chef Ian still tries to preserve what he can (ha, no pun intended) and is working hard to keep up with all our seconds vegetables. We can’t wait to host you at the farm - fingers crossed for 2023!

Our crew is small but mighty this year and although we’ve been battling weeks of heat they are in wonderful spirits and working hard to keep up with the farm.

Our little farm baby is growing so fast! Oradel is already a pro at eating tomatoes from the vine and picking beans from her dad’s garden. It’s so fun to see her explore the farm and interact with all the plants and people here.

We hope you all have been staying cool and healthy. We are so happy to have you as part of our farm family!

Also keep on the lookout for info about WINTER RATIONS SHARE 2022. No official announcements yet - but soon we will open the website up for current members to get veggies, jars and bread through the winter months.

Please keep using the recipe pages for inspiration for your boxes! This is perfect caponata and ratatouille time! And as always, let us know how you’re using the veggies - tag us on Instagram!
