Spring Update - a long one!

An update is long overdue here. While we work to get our equipment ready, seeds started, new catapillar tunnel built and employees hired it’s a good time to let you all know what has happened in the past few months. Whew!

In November and December as we began to plan for the 2024 season, we were very much hoping that our kitchen space on the farm would be ready by the summer to open for CSA pickups, wine tastings and dinners but due to more delays on building permits we don’t know when we will be able to open that space. Unfortunately, without that space and due to ever-complicated food safety regulations we can no longer distribute prepared foods and value-added products.

While we took a little farming break through the winter, we used the time to get creative about 2024 farm plan. To make up for lost income from the kitchen-side of things we’re investing in new equipment to produce and wash produce more efficiently, creating an all-star farm crew and prioritizing efficiency in our production systems over scaling-up acreage. We’ve been making all these decisions all while keeping in mind ways to make more sustainable choices for our farm’s land, carbon footprint and workers. Keep a lookout for emails about re-usable CSA boxes for select pickup locations!

We are so excited to open our Spring Plant sale in the next couple weeks - our greenhouse is already full of plants! CSA seedlings are looking great and we’re excited plant and grow all the veggies you know and love. Our team for the season is experienced and strong, we’ll introduce you to them via the newsletter and website as the season gets going.

We can’t wait for this rain to stop so we can get out to the fields to plant. In early March we were able to prep the fields for our early spring crops and once the peas, kale, lettuces, cabbages and all the others are big enough from the greenhouse we’ll get them in the ground ASAP! Our indoor growing spaces are prepped and we even have two plantings of carrots already seeded in the ground a sprouting.

We can’t thank you enough for being part of this journey with us, farming - like nature - requires constant adaptation and resilience. We’re always looking for ways to get better and serve you, our best customers.
