Snow Day

Oh how glorious a snow day can be. A decadence that only comes with being forced to stay put. To lazily go about indoor work while you have the whole day to complete a few tasks. To take the dog for a walk down the middle of the road like you own it, no cars to ruin the fantasy. To decide that while we're here we mind as well make cookies and hot chocolate and enjoy ourselves. What a treat a snow day can be, an excuse to enjoy the winter.

Then of course comes the shoveling, the plowing, the added challenge that 2 feet of extra ground add to every outdoor task. On the farm, it's the trudging to the root cellar to turn on the heater so the veggies won't freeze, the "thank goodness we put in the door to the greenhouse to swing inside" moment, it's the jump starting the tractor to plow the snow from the sides of the greenhouse so the frame doesn't collapse, the getting trucks out and unburying crates that can really put an end to the snow day stupor. But the beauty of the snowy fields and dogs pouncing that can really make me glad for snow. What a boring season winter would be without it.

Here are a few scenes from our snow time:
